The world of PC gaming is constantly evolving. Though much of the video-game focus has shifted towards home video-game consoles over the years, the PC is still an integral part of the gaming industry. Since it has always been and still is the most flexible and technologically advanced platform, in many ways PC games and the community they foster still represent the cutting edge of what gaming has to offer.

The Internet, of course, had a monumental impact on the PC gaming platform, not just in the way it allows player to connect with each other and play games together but also on the types of games being produced and the way in which we consume them. The most graphically stunning games will always look best on a pricey gaming rig loaded with all the right hardware components, but the PC is now also the main venue for much smaller and more esoteric PC games that anyone could enjoy, whether they are playing on an older PC, a Mac, a laptop, or even a netbook.

Another genre of games that still exists mostly on the PC is real-time strategy games (RTS). Like World of Warcraft, the most popular RTS game, StarCraft II, is also developed by Blizzard. Games like Starcraft II, in which gamers command huge armies around a battlefield, tend to fare better on the PC because they are easier to manage with a mouse and keyboard than a gamepad.

The naysayers are wrong. The PC is not dead. It is more alive and vibrant than ever.
